As Thanksgiving approaches, I’m feeling especially grateful for the writers who have buoyed me during the book-writing process. Today I want to recognize five authors who have read advanced copies of my forthcoming book Slip and written blurbs — the snippets of praise that appear on book jackets and in book pages on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc. Blurbs can help drum up interest in a book, especially if they come from well-known authors who readers admire and trust.
Earlier this fall, I sought blurbs from other nonfiction writers who have written books on similar topics, then held my breath and hoped for positive responses. I ended up with five blush-worthy blurbs from a fabulous group of women:
Evette Dionne, author of Weightless: Making Space for My Resilient Body and Soul
Dr. Margo Maine, a renowned eating disorder psychologist and author
Courtney Maum, author of The Year of the Horses
Emi Nietfeld, author of Acceptance
Christie Tate, author of The New York Times bestseller Group
I’m so grateful for this quintet of female authors, who are not only talented writers but good literary citizens. Here’s what they had to say about Slip — a book that blends personal narrative and research to provide a deeper understanding of eating disorder treatment, the systematic issues that lead some people to remain without care, the latest science around eating disorders, and the imperfect “middle place” between acute sickness and full recovery.

Slip won’t be out until August 5, but you can now pre-order it! Pre-orders help expand a book's reach, and my hope is that this book reaches and helps as many people as possible. You can find Slip wherever you buy books:
If any of you are writing your own books and are interested in learning more about how to seek blurbs, please feel free to leave a comment or email me: mallary.tenore@utexas.edu.
I can’t wait to read it. Congratulations, Mallary. Thank you for telling your story.
Beautiful blurbs, Mallary, and beautiful testaments to your writing and your story. Looking forward to reading it as soon as it comes out.
