Over the past six weeks, I’ve been touring the country and engaging in thoughtful conversations about my debut memoir SLIP.
The book follows my harrowing but hopeful journey from a childhood with anorexia to my present day reality as a woman who lives in the middle place between acute sickness and full recovery. Alongside my own personal narrative, I weave in the latest research on eating disorders as well as diverse perspectives from clinicians, researchers, and others with lived experience.
Many of the individuals who I interviewed for SLIP have attended my book tour events, along with people who were integral to my past — medical doctors who treated me for anorexia in the late 1990s, fellow patients I was treated alongside, former middle school teachers, and more.
The tour has been a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with people from various chapters in my life and to make new connections with readers. It’s been the ultimate reminder that a memoir’s reach can extend far beyond the page.
With all that in mind, I’m excited to announce part two of my tour!
Whereas the first part of the tour mainly featured in-person events at independent bookstores, this next leg will be a mix of in-person and virtual events, many of which are in partnership with organizations whose missions align with my interests and values as an author, professor, journalist, and woman in eating disorder recovery.
All of the events are open to the public, and some are part of conferences that require registrations. If the event you’d like to attend has a registration page, please be sure to sign up so that you can secure your spot. Here are more details:
